From the start of this record, this Pittsburgh fivesome set themselves apart with the distinctly clear lead vocals of Chris Feigh on "Progression" and the background vocals of everyone else, which finally does not sound like a bunch of people standing in a booth screaming at the top of their lungs. This band definitely has a lot of power and they're able to use it all really well, even managing to bring things down a bit with songs like "Faces to the Floor."
Song after song is full of infectious hooks, some powerfully kickass vocals and quality playing from all members of the band. This is one of the most interesting new punk bands to emerge in quite a long while. Even the slowest song on the album, "Carlos De Inferno," doesn't bother me because it's still an incredibly strong song, sounding a lot like Against Me! if they weren't so damn political.
This band is so interesting it's almost easy to overlook certain elements of their sound - like the samey sounding guitars - but it doesn't matter because everything comes together equally well to make a great fucking record. This is a flat out great album and one of the best punk records of 2007 and 2008. The vocals and the mood of the record will end up sticking with you long after the record is over.
As the end of the record zips by due to the quick brevity of the last songs, the band has got something going and it'll be extremely interesting to see where they go with their next few releases. Hopefully they'll stick with what made this record so damn good. Probably one of the best debut albums to come out in a long damn time; thank God they're not emo.
