On their full-length debut, this San Diego band let loose with moody atmospherics on "To Satellite." By letting their influences show - mainly Saosin, Faith No More and Glass jaw - they let the audience know that they're a bit different than other bands, but not too much. The melodic tendencies bleed through to every song, not that that's a bad thing, it actually helps to make the record better, overall, particularly on songs like "Miami Nights." The combination of good guitar work and decent vocals distinguish this band from others.

In some instances, the vocals come across sounding a bit like Greg Dulli of the Afghan Whigs/Twilight Singers, which is quite interesting. Take a listen to the Whigs' Gentlemen record and then listen to this record and one might be able to see where they got some more influence from.

As the record progresses along, every song tends to blend into one another, which is quite a deterrent. But the band is new, so they're just trying to get their feet wet so they will be able to figure out what they can really do; come the next record, the band should be able to go a different route and come out with something really powerful. They've got something going here but it's just too samey-sounding to really have much of an impact.

By the time "His Silent Film" rolls around, the band finally starts to find their footing. The song reminds me a bit of Around the Fur-era Deftones, so it's clear to see that this band is full of surprises.

The record comes to a close, the band have turned themselves around, most clearly on "The Weathermen" and should definitely be able to clear their own path without riding on their influences' coattails. Definitely look them up when the next record comes out.
