I think every kid goes through the stage where he/she loves techno or anything electronic. Then you grow up a bit and you hate it. Then you grow up a bit more and realize that there's more to electronic music than remixes of the Imperial March and Super Nintendo soundtracks and you give it another chance.
Inner Party System seem to be following the recent influx of electronically inclined bands like Heavens and Blaqk Audio by releasing an album that is full of catchy beats and synths that feels equally at home in your room or in the club.
This album came to me with no press release. After a little digging, I still couldn't find out too much about the band. To be perfectly honest, I kind of like this about them and wish more bands would handle business in this manner. It's refreshing to see a band that doesn't try and sell itself to a reviewer before he/she ever puts the album in their player but, instead, let's the album speak for itself and allow the reviewer to focus almost solely on the music.
The Download EP is one of those nice little albums that's catchy and fun enough that it'll find a good home in your car, but it's not deep enough to be something you'll be hearing in your sleep and listening to on repeat four times a day. And sometimes you need one of those albums in your collection; something for taking the short drive to work in the morning, or the ride home from somewhere late at night. An album interesting enough to keep you alert and listening, but not interesting enough to deserve your full attention. Definitely one of the better electro-pop/rock releases this year.
